Ryan grew up in Moorestown, where he graduated with the Moorestown High School class of 2009. While there he was a three-season varsity athlete in cross country, indoor track, and outdoor track, captaining all three teams in his senior year. It was during these years that Ryan was often injured and discovered his passion for physical therapy from the patient perspective. He then moved on to Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut, taking his passion for physical therapy and running with him. He continued his success in distance running, again becoming a three-sport athlete in cross country and track and field, focusing on middle distance events and captaining the team in his final season. He was named an Academic All-American in all four years of his undergraduate studies. Academics did not take a back seat to athletics however, as he graduated Magna Cum Laude one semester early, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Health Sciences and a Minor in Biology. Ryan continued his graduate education at Quinnipiac, earning his Doctorate of Physical Therapy while managing the cross country teams and conducting research on the athletes as well. He is currently seeking publication for his paper regarding his research into overtraining and injuries in collegiate cross country runners. He was also a senior clinical member of the student-run, pro-bono physical therapy clinic at Quinnipiac, which served the uninsured population in the New Haven area. Ryan’s passion for running continues both athletically and professionally. As a frequently injured runner in high school, he is able to get into the mind of the injured runner and excels at getting them back on the road quickly. Experiencing physical therapy from the patient perspective not only set Ryan on the academic path to becoming a physical therapist, but also helped him develop a true passion and empathy for every patient he meets.
